Extend the life of your printer with a little preventive maintenance.
If you’re a customer in one of the cities we serve who uses recycled toner cartridges from LaserEquipment, we’ll see that your printers are cleaned thoroughly each year. However, there are some things that anyone can do to extend a printer’s life and keep the document quality high.
- Keeping dust out of your printer is extremely important. Before placing a fresh toner cartridge in the printer, use a damp cloth or “toner rag” (the yellow sheets our technicians use) to remove loose toner, paper dust and other debris.
- Be sure to wipe off any rubber rollers you can see with this cloth. DO NOT USE ALCOHOL OR COMMERCIAL CLEANERS ON RUBBER ROLLERS! You may use platen cleaner if you have it.
- Clean the outside of your printer with Windex or a damp cloth. This removes dust that could become charged with static electricity, which could potentially damage your printer or the cartridge.
- Give your printer room to breathe. Make sure there are a couple inches of space around your printer. Fans inside your printer blow out hot air created by the fuser assembly (the device that melts toner to paper). If this hot air isn’t sucked out of the printer by the fans, serious damage can be done to the interior components and &ldqup;motherboard”.
