Frequently asked questions and answers about printers

Q: My printer is printing pages with light streaks down the middle. With each page the streak gets wider. What’s the problem?

A: Your cartridge is running out of toner. If you remove the cartridge and gently rock it back and forth, making sure to keep it level, you’ll redistribute the little bit of toner that’s left so you can print a few more pages before installing a fresh cartridge.

Q: My documents have dark streaks in the same place on each page. What’s causing that?

A: Your cartridge may have a scratch on the drum, or your printer may have a defective fusing assembly. Try another cartridge. If you have the same problem, it’s probably the fusing assembly.

Q: The print on my document is very light over the entire page. Why?

A: Try adjusting the density setting on your printer. Check your printer manual to find out where it is and how to change it. If your printer has an “Economode” option, turn it off.

Q: My pages have blotches showing up every few inches vertically down the sheet. What causes that?

A: The drum has probably worn out or been damaged. Whenever you experience poor quality prints, replace the toner cartridge first. If the fresh cartridge produces the same poor quality print, there’s likely a problem with your printer.

Save an example of the print and call the LaserEquipment Service Department for a service call. If you’re in the metro area and use LaserEquipment recycled cartridges, the trip to your office and the estimate to repair is free. We’ll tell you what the repair will cost before doing any work on your printer.

Q: Will using a recycled toner cartridge void the warranty on my printer?

A: Absolutely not! Federal law prohibits any company or person from requiring you to purchase only their product. The Federal Trade Commission protects your right as a consumer to purchase the product or service of your choice. If any manufacturer tells you that they will void your warranty if you use a recycled toner cartridge, tell them your rights as a consumer are protected under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, Subparagraph C, Section 101.

Q: It’s such a hassle getting a purchase order approved and issued every time I need my printer fixed. How can I make the process easier?

A: LaserEquipment sells service agreements on most laser printers (available for local customers only). There are many advantages to purchasing a service agreement. First, your headaches are gone. Once you get approval for the cost of the service agreement, virtually all repairs are covered for one year. As a customer with a service agreement, you’ll get priority service. We will be on–site to fix your printer within four hours of your call to our office. And we’ll clean all your printers under the agreement each year. This is a thorough cleaning with special toner vacuums and cleaning solutions proven to be the best for cleaning laser printers.

Q: My Hewlett Packard printer is still under warranty. Can you guys fix it?

A: We are an authorized Hewlett Packard reseller and can perform warranty work on your printers. In addition, we can arrange an extended warranty that picks up when the manufacturer’s warranty expires. Give us a call or email service@laserequipment.com for details.
